THE QUALITATIVE CHARACTERISTIC
MOLDAVIAN TOBACCOS

Tobaccos grown in Moldova are referred to neutral type of tobaccos, type IV as per GOST-8072-77.

By their external characteristics tobaccos can be broad leaf, red, yellow and all hues of these shades (Trapezond, Jubilee, Moldavschii-456, Moldavschii-272).Qualitative features of commodity by grades are in compliance with the inter-state standard GOST – 8072-77 effective in the Republic of Moldova, being close to the features adopted under international practices.

For instance, Moldovan tobacco by quality and by form is similar to Turkish tobaccos “Trapezond”, “Shark” and “Kabakulak”.

Raw tobacco is subject to manipulation and artificial fermentation, followed by packing into stan-dard bales 23kg ± 0,2 kg and 37 kg ± 0,25 kg each sized as follows:Length – 55 ± 3 cm, width – 30 cm, height – 60±5 cm and length– 60 ± 5 cm, width– 70 cm, height– 60±5 cm. Each bale is packed and covered on all sides with jute cloth or as foreseen in GOST–8072-77
